Augusto di Carpi

The work with metal and wood, together with his passion for Cubist and Impressionist art, awakened in Augusto Di Carpi the desire to interpret the great masters through his own eyes and, thus, the collection "Traces of Cubism and other Illusions" and other Illusions, marked mainly due to the respect for the main characteristics of the painter in his different artistic moments while at the same time integrating himself with Di Carpi's style.

The technique employed by Di Carpi in this collection harks back to Picasso's pains and pleasures during his creation, while at the same time applying an understanding of the present. Using “Metal” and “Madeira” as main raw materials, Di Carpi brings in his works the nature of emotions and human relationships, represented by the base in “Madeira” and, in “Metal” is the complexity of the same sensations and the rules of coexistence that shape our society.

Di Carpi's pieces are built with a narrative that encourages the viewer to think beyond the first impression and reflect from multiple angles and versions of the same story.

THE LATIN GALLERY presents the collection “Traces of Cubism and other Illusions”, based on the reinterpretation of 17 works by the Spanish artist, which inspire Augusto di Carpi to create his sculptures in “wood and metal”. They are pieces produced individually and autographed by the artist.

"The world is generally much more complex than it seems and sometimes we need to shape, adapt, adjust and, why not, force situations so that we can live in society, and this society is not always what it appears to be"
